​How and why cells and tissues opt to a specific morphology is a fundamental but complex question in biology.

Investigating the mechanistic link between function and morphology in various tissues/cells is the main mission of our lab. ​

We intend to elucidate novel processes through the appreciation of cell and tissue biology utilizing various microscopic techniques ranging from 2D images in immunofluorescence, 3D images, time-lapse imaging and electron microscopic techniques.

We mainly focus on the research of hematopoietic stem cells within the bone marrow, and how these stem cells develop, are maintained and influenced by their microenvironment.  

解剖学は生体の肉眼的形態学を中心としたMacroanatomyと微細構造・組織形態学を中心としたMicroanatomyの分野に二分されます。本教室はMicroanatomy (組織学)と生体の発生過程を学ぶ発生学を担当しています。組織学・発生学の教育を担当するとともに、すべての組織のoriginとなる幹細胞生物学を中心とした研究を行っております。特に組織幹細胞の内、造血のおおもととなる造血幹細胞がどの様に制御され、幹細胞性を維持するのかに焦点を当てています。


組織・発生学では組織・細胞の正常構造を観察・学習するとともに、生体機能の恒常性・optimizationのためにどの様な構造がadaptされ、発生過程を経るのかを研究する学問です。私たちの教室では微細構造形成に伴う様々なbiologyを加味し、静止でとらえられた 2D形態はもちろん、3D形態、時間的変化、電子顕微鏡解析など組織・細胞構造を多面的に解析し、構造と機能の複合的理解につとめています。 ​​
